Set in the protected territory of the “National Park of Cilento and Vallo del Diano”, the area of Ascea-Velia has been integrated in the Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO and included in the MAB network programme enhanced for preservation through a long term balance, of the biological diversity, the economical development promotion and the protection of the annexed cultural values.

The coastline is of extraordinary beaty, in particular for its sandy shores of coarse particle-size and by a wide open crystal clear sea, as sung in the times of Virgil and today bestowed by the “Bandiera Blu delle Spiagge d'Europa” title, not to mention the “Vele” of the Legambiente and TCI.
The mildness of the climate of these places were already known of during the past centuries, as in fact in Elea-Velia Augustus stayed here on his way back from the East, as Cicero, Paolo Emilio, Horace, Brutus and other illustrious figures of Rome.

Myth and history, sacred and profane, mysticism and folklore: its this sort of mixture that deepens the sense and meaning of the ancient legacy, this binding strongly connotes the cultural identity of Ascea-Velia, transfused in age-old rituals and processions and in many cultural and spectacular initiatives, that live up these places throughout the year.
